Nikka Coffey Grain Whiskey is an original single grain whiskey, mainly distilled from corn, in a Coffey still. It becomes even more unique in the sense that it contains mostly corn, as in the past, while most modern whiskeys are derived from wheat. Corn gives the whiskey a rich, rounded texture and intense aromas. This grain whiskey is today an essential component of Nikka blends. The distillation process is continuous, whereas the stills used to produce Single Malts require two separate distillations. Nikka has two Coffey stills at its Miyagikyo distillery for the production of its grain whiskeys. Imported from Scotland in 1963, these ancient stills produce very round spirits, with a distinctive character that defines Nikka's signature blends.
