It is a clear peppermint liqueur, with the flavor extracted directly from fresh mint leaves. Some varieties of mint leaf oil from the US, UK and Morocco are carefully distilled, resulting in a clean, well-defined bouquet with a definitive minty finish. Bols Peppermint has long been chosen as a digestive. In older recipes you can find it described as “Crème de Menthe” (its name in French).
