Niepoort Crusted Port Wine is a great complement to Niepoort's well-known and recognized Vintage and Late Bottled Vintage. Traditionally, it is selected from Vintage quality wines, from two or three harvests, which are not subjected to any fining or filtration. Crusted is only released on the market three years after bottling.
As the name suggests, Crusted, over time, creates a natural deposit in the bottle, so it must be decanted before serving. This Port is extremely appealing in its youth, but it also benefits from several years of aging in the bottle, meaning it should be stored lying down.
This Crusted comes from 2010 wines from Vinha da Pisca and 2009 and 2011 wines from small plots from Soutelo and Vale do Pinhão. The grapes were trodden in the round presses of Vale de Mendiz and the wine subsequently aged in vats in our cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia. Production was small, with a total of 7,000 liters, bottled in December 2012.
