Porto Ferreira Tawny is a classic, elegant and very appealing tawny Port Wine, with the genuine flavor of the best wines produced in the Douro region with the care and knowledge accumulated over more than 250 years of excellence that make Ferreira the oldest and celebrated Portuguese brand of Port Wine in the world. The hand-harvested grapes were vinified using the traditional Port Wine method. After gentle crushing with partial stemming, alcoholic fermentation follows with maceration, which allows the greatest possible extraction of the constituents of the skins to be obtained. Fermentation takes place under controlled temperature and is stopped by the addition of wine spirit at the moment considered ideal by the winemaker, considering the grape varieties, degree of maturation and desired sweetness. The final balance between the body and aroma of Port Wine comes from the combination of the different characteristics of the multiple grape varieties used. The wine is in the Douro where the cold of winter helps deposit the lees. The following spring, after being cleaned, it is transported to the Ferreira cellars in V.N.Gaia and placed in oak barrels where it will age over several years, acquiring the incomparable style of the Ferreira brand. During this period, the wines are looked after by the oenology team who monitor their aging and carry out blends, refreshments and corrections whenever the tasting determines. The final batch is obtained after selecting wines with their own characteristics and ages between 2 and 5 years, which allow them to maintain the unique identity of Porto Ferreira Tawny and an average age of 4 years.
