Vinho Arrepiado Collection 2016 Red wine produced at Herdade do Arrepiado Velho in Sousel, around 40 kilometers from Portalegre, in Alto Alentejo, saw the rebirth of a long-abandoned space.
The 19th century Alentejo hill was built according to the traditional architecture of the region, magnificently preserved, full of spaces of rare beauty. You can feel the passion in every corner, in every detail, both in the house and in the surrounding space.
Herdade do Arrepiado Velho was acquired 9 years ago by the Antunes Family, who immediately began an ambitious project: turning Arrepiado Velho into an asset and a reference of excellence in the Alentejo. The Estate took shape, invested in quality, and the wines that are created there do not go unnoticed – beautiful image, and better organoleptic sensations.
With a total area of around 100 hectares, the dam stands out among vineyards and olive trees, in a mix of colors and tranquility, as only Alentejo can offer. All of these characteristics make Herdade do Arrepiado Velho part of the Alentejo Wine Route - São Mamede Route.
It was 2002 when the 33 hectares of vineyards were planted from scratch, in a terroir that combines, in a rare way, schist soils with steep slopes with mild temperatures and an abundance of water, natural characteristics that indicate great potential.
David Booth, responsible for viticulture that year, and winemaker António Maçanita combined their knowledge, innovation and dedication, selected the grape varieties and created the so-called Vinha dos 100 points: red varieties - Touriga Nacional (42%), Syrah (18% ), Cabernet Sauvignon (24%) and Petit Verdot (16%); and white grape varieties - Antão Vaz (22%), Chardonay (8%), Viogner (30%), Verdelho (15%) and Riesling (15%).
Winemaker António Maçanita continues to be responsible for the wines, now alongside Nuno Ramalho, current Viticulturist.
Although there is already a project for a new winery, with greater capacity and location, the existing one is equipped with the most advanced technology available and appropriately sized for the quantity of current production of unique and seductive wines, which are born from modern oenology. but combined, in a sublime way, with respect for tradition. Demand, rigor and quality are the watchwords.
