Porto Ferreira Dona Antónia Reserva Tawny is a reserve Port Wine created in honor of Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, a charismatic woman who dedicated her entire life to the Douro and Port Wine, leaving a legacy of exception and values of quality and excellence that established Ferreira as the greatest symbol of the Portuguese soul and number one brand in Portugal. Porto Ferreira Dona Antónia Reserva Tawny is vinified according to the traditional Port Wine method. The hand-harvested grapes are gently crushed and, after partial stemming, fermented with maceration to extract the best constituents from the grape skins. This entire process takes place under strict control of temperatures and wine densities, which allows choosing the ideal moment for adding the wine brandy, which is necessary to stop fermentation in Port Wines. The moment depends on the grape varieties, degree of maturation and the desired final sweetness. The wines that make up this Reserve Port remain in the Douro until they are transported to the Ferreira cellars in V.N.Gaia the following spring, where they age according to the traditional Port Wine style in oak barrels. Over several years, the wines are subjected to numerous rackings, analyzes and tastings, which allow aging to be monitored and blends, refreshments and corrections to be made when the tasting determines this. The final batch is obtained by combining wines of different ages and origins, which consistently achieve the typical Porto Ferreira Dona Antónia Reserva Tawny style and quality. Generally using wines between 4 and 12 years old, the average age of the final batch is around 7 years.
